origin & provenance
Brazil Portilho Estate is produced at the Portilho Family Estate, located in the celebrated Matas de Minas region on the slopes of the Serra do Caparaó. For more than a century, the Portilho family has cultivated coffee in this mountainous landscape, where mineral-rich granite soils, warm rainy summers and cool dry winters create ideal conditions for exceptional specialty coffee.
Today the estate is managed by Sidney Portilho, a producer and barista who combines generations of family tradition with a modern focus on quality. Covering just 16 hectares, the farm follows a meticulous artisanal approach: cherries are selectively hand-picked at peak ripeness, undergo anaerobic fermentation and are slowly dried on raised beds to maximise sweetness, clarity and complexity.
The estate’s dedication to excellence was recognised at the 2019 International Coffee Week, where its coffee was awarded 3rd Best Coffee of the Year in Brazil among more than 500 entries. Scoring 87.5 SCA points, this lot delivers a full-bodied, exceptionally sweet and vibrant cup with bright citrus acidity, notes of red fruits, raw cane sugar and elegant liqueur-like nuances.
