Origin and provenance
The Clydesdale estate was founded in the 18th century by a Briton who fell in love with the Blue Mountain area and decided to settle in Jamaica. Among all the estates, Clydesdale was one of the first to cultivate coffee, starting in the 18th century. The beans from this production, of exceptional quality and uniformity, were highly appreciated by European consumers, and from then on the region’s global reputation took off.
The estate’s splendid residence, as well as the tools used for coffee cultivation, have become national heritage recognized by the Jamaican government and, even after more than 200 years, are still in perfect condition, although no longer in use.
The variety grown is Typica, characterized by medium-low yield with extraordinary aromatic notes in the cup. The common processing method is washed; the coffee is hand-picked on steep, hilly terrain. The aroma reflects the terroir: a distinct vanilla sweetness, refined cocoa, enveloping melted butter, and a toasted aftertaste of tobacco and dried fruit.
