How many Coffees Equal a Red Bull?

Any energy drink consumer asks themselves sooner or later: how many coffees equal a Red Bull? Or, put more simply, how many coffees do you need to drink to reach the same amount of caffeine as in a Red Bull?

This is very useful information for keeping your caffeine intake under control if you regularly consume coffee or energy drinks.

Let us get straight to the point: here are the figures for the amount of caffeine in an espresso and in the well-known energy drink.

Caffeine in Espresso and Red Bull Compared

In a recent scientific article “caffeine in an espresso“, the caffeine content of an espresso was estimated within an indicative range from 51 mg per cup up to 322 mg per cup; other sources report an average content of 50-100 mg per cup.

Red Bull has an indicative caffeine content of 30 mg per 100 grams of beverage. A standard 250 ml can contains 80 mg of caffeine, as reported on the manufacturer’s website; consequently, a 330 ml can contains 105.5 mg of caffeine.

We can conclude that a Red Bull’s caffeine content is entirely comparable to that of some of the espressos served in cafés.
